As a kid growing up in Texas, the idea of having some kind of a studio with a bunch of instruments, was always a dream. (In part inspired by these images.) Later, I learned a deep thread of my love for music, translated into ample curiosity and perpetual inspiration to play, practice and create on as many as 10 instruments for up to 10 hours a day. Btw, this desire far exceeded the discipline required to play one for more than an hour. (With the exception of double bass, more about all things pro bassist pursuits in another post.) And so, this notion of just being surrounded by things that I could just make music and noise with, coincided in NYC with cash payments for gigs, lessons, etc, all earned in proximity to instruments for sale on craigslist, and thus, my own music inn grew. To get use them on my albums, film scores, as well as other’s projects is dream come true. Some of my best days include instruments and mics out, tracking sounds on sounds, the multi-modal, multi-tracking, multi-instrumentalist. I enjoy playing instruments new and old to me. Being a multi-instrumentalist keeps me fresh, confident in my self expression and in touch with instinct, as well as humble.
